Dale R Brown, 78, passed peacefully on Thursday October 24, 2019 at 5:15 a.m. in Golden Living in Kokomo, Indiana, after fighting a courageous battle with Parkinson’s. He was born in Logansport, Indiana, to Kenneth R. Brown and Mary E. (Hinkle) Brown on June 10, 1941. He was married to Peggy J. Barker on May 5, 1963, in New Waverly E.U.B Church. He was a millwright at Chrysler Transmission Plant, retiring on December 31, 1994 after 31 ½ years. He was a member of 685 Retirees.
Dale was a Golden Harvest Seed salesman for many years, was a member of the former Otterbein Church transferring to Galveston United Methodist where he had served as a trustee, was a member of the Walton Elevator Board, and was a 50-year member of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief as well as in many other positions. Dale was 2002 Cass County Fireman of the Year of which he was very honored and humbled to be chosen.
Retired from farming, he enjoyed attending music activities and sporting events of his grandchildren. He liked attending classic car shows, Power of the Past Tractor and Engine shows, and the Walton Tractor Club Show. Dale also enjoyed the last 4 years watching his nephew Joe Schopper punt for the Purdue Boilermakers.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peg. He was Dad to Steve (Diane), Stan (Deb), and Allison (Eric) Wheeler, “Papa” to Bailey, Alec, Brandon, Dana, Derek, Bryce, Ben, and Brother to Jean Barnhart, Brother-in-law to Mary Schopper (Mark), Chuck Barker (Sherry), Mark Barker (Carla), and is also survived by aunts, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death were his parents, Kenneth and Mary Brown, many aunts and uncles, Brother-in-law Barney Barnhart, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Charles and Jean Barker.
Family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Golden Living for their love, compassion, care, respect, and dignity that they gave Dale and our family. Also, Kindred Hospice Care and respect they have shown us.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 28th at the Galveston United Methodist Church with Pastor David Duke Officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until service time at the Church on Monday. Burial will follow in the Galveston Cemetery.
