George W. Long

George W. Long, 88, of Walton, passed away at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Aperion Estates in Peru.  He was born March 17, 1931 in Galveston, Indiana to Chester C. and Sarah V. Long.   George married Alice Rhodes on November 12, 1950 in Galveston.   She preceded him in death on December 16, 2017.

George was a milkman for over 40 years with Med-O-Bloom dairy in Kokomo.   He was active in the Walton Vol. Fire Dept for many years.  During part of those years, he served as chief.    He was a member of the Onward Christian Church and the Walton American Legion Post #418.  He enjoyed fishing and his many trips to Florida.   George served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving family include his children, Jerry L. (Gayle) Long, Walton, IN; and Darla J. (Mark) Guy of Galveston.  He is also survived by three granddaughters, nine great grandchildren and one brother Robert Long of Naples, FL.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, November 9th  at Onward Christian Church, 21 Oak Street, Onward, Indiana with Rev. Rod Mason officiating.  Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery in Walton.   Visitation will take place from 3 – 7 p.m. Friday at Onward Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Walton Vol. Fire Dept. in George’s honor.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Murray Weaver Funeral Home. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
