James Arthur "Art" Morgan Obituary

James Arthur “Art” Morgan, 79, of Galveston, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo.  He was born February 4, 1940 in Harrison County, Elizabeth, Indiana to Benjamin Franklin and Levida Thelma (Cooper) Morgan.  He married Mary A. Bir on February 23, 1960 in Lanesville, Indiana. Mary preceded him in death on May 17, 2014.

Art was a machine operator for Chrysler for 35 years, retiring in 1998.  He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo, the Galveston Park Board, Galveston Vol. Fire Dept., and the Galveston Lions Club. He was active in the boy scouts with St. Joan of Arc Church and a member of the blacksmith shop in Rochester.  Art enjoyed playing golf, gardening, upholstery and blacksmithing.

Surviving family include his children, James Arthur (Kristy) Morgan Jr.; Nelson Keith Morgan; Kevin Lee Morgan and Sandra Kathleen (Vernon Eugene) Mettler.  Surviving grandchildren include, Chloe and Chad Mettler, Nick Morgan, Stefanie (Justin) Kottkamp, and step grandson Matt Hollingsworth.  He is also survived by a great granddaughter, Amilya Jane Kottkamp and a step great granddaughter, Madison Hollingsworth. Surviving siblings include, Paul Morgan, Lanesville, IN; Warren Morgan, Hanover, IN; Mary Martha Morgan Wiseman, Corydon, IN.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, and siblings Emil, Jasper “Jack”, Richard, Frederick and Glenn Morgan.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo with Rev. Fr. Arbuckle officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 pm Tuesday, Sept. 10that Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Galveston Vol. Fire Dept. in Art’s memory. Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston has been entrusted with arrangements.www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
