Celesta Dyar Obituary

Celesta R. Dyar, 102, of Kokomo, went home to be with the Lord at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the home of her daughter.   She was born September 28, 1917 to Earl and Helen Miller.  She married Glen Dyar on November 4, 1939 and he has preceded her in death. They established their first home in Arcadia, Indiana later moving to Bennett’s Switch September 25, 1941.

She was a member of Bennett’s Switch United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Royal Center, formerly of Bunker Hill since 1945.  She was also the only remaining Charter member of the Deer Creek Do-Ettes of Miami County, Indiana, founded in 1956.  Glen and Celesta were avid Euchre players, enjoying the game with many of their friends.

She graduated from Coal City High School in 1935.  She and other graduates of Coal City presented a series of plays to help raise money for a gymnasium.   Celesta worked for the Post Office when she was young.  After her children were gone, she worked as a cook at the Miami Elementary School and then the Maconaquah Elementary School.  She often said she had wanted to be a nurse.  She had two daughters, Kay and Connie, daughter-in-law, Cheryl and two granddaughters, Molly and Wendy, who fulfilled her dream. Glen and Celesta are sitting in Heaven right now listening to Cheryl play hymns on her heavenly piano.

Surviving family include her two daughters, Kay (John) Titus, Connie (Wayne) Rutherford and son, Mike Dyar.  She is also survived by five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.   She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen, brothers Earl (Junior) and Wilmer, sister, Cleo and daughter-in-law Cheryl.
