Sherry Lou VanDyke , 84, passed away on January 28, 2026 at Brickyard Healthcare in Kokomo. Sherry was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 3, 1941 to Vernon and Edna (Doan) Hoghe. She graduated from Galveston High School in 1959. In July 1959, she married the love of her life, Carl Pettay. After Carl’s passing, Sherry married Roger VanDyke in May 1985.
Sherry worked at JC Penney in Kokomo, Controls in Logansport, and at one time was owner of The House of Sounds in Peru, IN. In 2022, Sherry moved to assisted living at Bloom in Kokomo and moved to Brickyard Healthcare in November 2025.
Sherry is survived by her sisters, Linda Lovegrove and Janet (Bill) Lovelace as well as grandchildren Shawneci Windell and Cole (Pettay) Trueblood. Sherry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear cousins in Ohio. Longtime friends Janet Pullen and Kelly Huskins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husbands Carl Pettay and Roger VanDyke. Her only child, Eric Pettay, passed away in February 2016. Also preceding her in death was her brother-in-law Mike Lovegrove in August 2025.
A service for Sherry will be Friday, February 27 at 2:00 PM at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, IN. The family would like to thank Chris Weaver for his help with the arrangements. Murray-Weaver Funeral Home will conduct the burial at a later time depending on the weather.
