Mike and Cheryll then moved to Nebraska, where they eventually made their home in Pierce, Nebraska.  Mike served as the interim pastor at the Madison United Church of Christ in Madison, Nebraska for a brief time.  He also spent several years at the Beef of America plant and attended the Nebraska Christian College and Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Over the past several years, Michael and his family moved throughout the United States, working at several Travel Centers of America truck stops, while he served in food management positions.  Most recently he worked at Securitas where he served as a security guard at the Frito Lay plant in Frankfort, Indiana.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, and infant son Michael James Ratliff.  He is survived by his wife Cheryll of 46 years; Daughter, Aleshia of Carmel, Indiana; sons, Mathew (Betty) of Evansville, Indiana, Tim (Nicole) of Wells, Maine, David of Kokomo, Indiana; Grandchildren, Ashley, Savannah, Leslie, Matthew and Quinlan.  Mike is also survived by his four sisters: Judy, Mary, Cindy, and Francis along with Brothers Jerome, Edward, and Jeffery.
